Sisters on the Runway: Fashion Show Event

On October 22, 2010 at 7PM, young talent will come together to produce a student organized runway show entitled “Sisters on the Runway.” Designs from top designers such as Vena Cava, David Dixon, Tracey Reese, among others will be presented alongside aspiring talents from Parsons, New School University designers for this special event to benefit Safe Horizon. The objective of this student run and student organized event is to raise money and awareness to fight domestic violence as well and get students to put their skills to use while getting involved in community service. Tickets are $15 general admission/$10 students and will take place at the David M Schwartz Fashion Education Center Auditorium (560 7th Avenue, 2nd Floor).

Oh Hay! I AM BACK!

So I've been completely living under the rock... at least from blogging.

I was busy with finals and I accidentally killed my Macbook so I had to replace it during the summer. I went on a trip during 4th of July to Grand Canyon and Vegas.

I've expected more from Grand Canyon but unlike others I felt that I was still on top of Grand Canyon.

However that thought changed when I saw the Grand Canyon documentary at IMAX.

By the way, a store in Santa Monica called Brandy Melville opened up during summer.

A LOT of cool and comfy outer wear. Go check them out. I got my skirt from there :-)

I often find myself in a situation where guys ask personal preferences.

Something like, "What kind of style you look for in men?".

I get stuck while trying to pick the right words other than gay/retro.

I guess the perfect way to put it... I really can't find the right answer..gahh.

So it's a trend to dress really modern with tight/edgy silhouettes yet gay for Korean actors these days.

I swear foreign people might actually suggest that they might be gay.

Regardless all the objection, I however, still love all these retro looks.

This actor, is known for his natural retro looks in all his movies and dramas.

I personally think he is awesome.

I've been interning at Creative Recreation for 3 weeks now, and my co-worker Will in Developments department dresses just like that. I sometimes want to creep up to him and ask him for shoots but...haven't managed to stir up the courage to do so.

So, I used to be a fine artist.

Always working with multi-media, I honestly used to throw colors and pencil strokes along brush strokes to create whatever was on my mind.

However, contradicting to what I've been doing, everything changed when I came to Parsons. I mean Parsons IS a design school. Everything is highly design oriented.

As an entry fashion major student, I was assigned to make transforming body piece that changes form and its purposes, for my 3D class. I've decided to make a bag that turns into a jacket, inspired by Comme de Garcons Fall 2010 bulky jacket pieces.

This was my first time ever making a piece of clothing.

I've used to alter clothes but never used sewing machine to make from scratch.

I'm very pleased with what I've done! yeah?!

The jacket is bulkier and much more hunched back looking, but the photo doesn't show :-(

I always think an outfit turns into something called 'high-fashion' or often known as wittingly 'stylish' when each material on clothing is perfectly fitted together. Hmmm, sort of like a sandwich or a burger where every ingredient has to have certain texture, color, flavor, and the right temperature to please the eater. So when I see a 'perfect' outfit or dress myself, it's when multiple layers of different material are combined to make an art piece. Good example would be on the below. I mean I honestly wouldn't wear these outfit... but leather+ruffles+cotton+sweater+silk = Heavenly. I love clothes that are eye-grabbing unique but still give that subtle feminine qualities.

Excuse me for rambling on. Its 6:17 in the morning.

Due to school I've only been sleeping 3 or 4 hours a day, and I ended up falling asleep at 9 on Friday. With dinner on my bed! I just woke up at 4:30 am.

I promised myself that I will update my blog very often this weekend :-)

I've been bumming around since my 20th birthday just because of some dumbass found his way to get me in so much trouble than it is worth even thinking over. I was lost in thoughts and words... Now that I look at past few days, I've been doing nothing but thinking about what has already happened. I need to dust myself again and concentrate on school and blogging. Thanks for those of you who waited for a new post. I will never ever let anyone put me down again in this slump mode again.

Been seriously meaning to upload over loading pictures on my laptop.

I've been blaming it on school and school work, but since it's the weekend...I need to get my butt movin'.

I feel upon this blog (omg I don't even remember) and just fell in love with PAULA KAWANIS. She is Japanese-Brazilian. got all the gorgeous features of both heritage I see.

I'm beyond jealous. She will be seen a lot this upcoming Fall Fashion week 2010.

A second model I've been meaning to post is....Nate Gill.

To me, epitome of a beautiful male model is somebody who has male qualities despite of his perfect features. I'm not so much into pretty boys... I mean they are beautiful to look at, but when it's a bit hard to distinguish them either a girl or a guy... hmmm not so much liking it.

Well, as for Nate, despite his perfect features and of course he is homosexuality, he has this subtle sexy vibe that comes from him. Anyone could point out that he is gay but he still has that VIBE, I REALLY DON'T KNOW HOW TO explain, that just makes me fall for him. hehehe.

Codes Combine

Codes Combine is a well known, probably one of the most popular brand in Korea. It's not familiar to foreigners but you mention the name to the natives, and they will automatically recognize it. A lot of Korean designers are amazing, sadly anonymously in the states...

I'm disappointed that Codes Combine hasn't launched branches in the states yet. Using high quality materials and unique but not so flashy designs, Codes Combine has too many fanatics. My friends from the state buy tons of Codes Combine as soon as they land!! hahaha. I actually asked KS myself for few of their design. It's a bit costly, every piece of clothing from here are a bit pricey but isn't it worthy? I'm frustrated that they don't have international online store.

If you ever get a chance to visit Korea, Codes Combine is one of a must Korean fashion brand store.

Crazy night at Eden with my girls.

Club Camel in the city got bought up or renovated to Club Eden.

It was actually funny because I heard (from few of my girls who go there frequently, like last week ehem) that only the DJ dock and the bar changed. My first experience of Korean Club wasn't bad AT ALL. Nice fog machine, mixture of house remix and hip hop, endless drinks and dishes, nice lounge (we got to grab a table on the second floor of the club looking down at the dance floor through a large window wall. We also had a karaoke machine in our room too!

Nobody was willing to dance floor....so my girls and I had to get up on stage and tag along people to dance with us. About an hour later everybody got up to dance ehehehehehe. The one sad thing about the night, guys our age didn't stop by...Well couple of our friends tried to get in but no Id's... we stuck with each other since we didn't like oldies hanging out with us. A lot of them tried offering me drinks and ask me to dance with them and I did with couple but... to the rest I said "LATER!"

KS is back in the city. Finally.

He'd gone on a little trip to Dallas to see a friend.

I hadn't seen him for about 4 days more or less....It drove me nuts.

My soul mate that I'm used to seeing every single fucking day was nowhere to be found.

I've been having the time of my life these since the start of spring break but something was missing.

I texted him earlier today and he replied saying he'd call as soon as he gets back.

Of course he did and we went out for the best artichoke pizza and beer.

He bought me a bag of brownies tooooo!!!!!!

Now I'm back in my room...windows up, letting the NYC chill air in.

Just finished downloaded all the new house mix Jaewoo's stored in my hard drive.

Everything is perfect, yet 2% unsatisfactory.

I got this after one of my classes. There is this fine boutique on 19th st. on 5th ave. Sells mixture of leather, laces, clunky boots to variety of Jeffery Campbell. I couldn't take my eyes off on these. I had to pull myself away last Monday because I've been spending too much on just about everything. However, I caught myself re-entering the store again on thursday with my friend Gogo, and just bought a pair.

I wore it the very next day!!!! It hurt my feet a bit but I'm starting to wear it down :-)

It's the start of Spring break.

Everyone at Parsons has been dreading for this glorious free week.

Our professors aren't supposed to give homework, but they somehow managed to squeeze and assign us huge projects that we need to work over the break.

I'm planning on sleeping and living the life at night, repeat repeat repeat.

I was so caught up with school since I got back to NYC, I always forgot update my blog.

Since I basically have nothing else to do for a week. I'm really gonna dedicate my time

on blogging. Watch out for it.

To start, I'm going to post few of the pictures I've managed to take from date with KS and Moony Moon after Fushion.

We had the best but too costly Korean Barbeque! and ended up at 16 Handles, yum yum.

Parsons and FIT, two of the best fashion schools in the states compete annually during March.

Students who are selected as finalists get to present their portfolio on the runway of Fushion.

It's amazing how students could create pieces as unusually and exceptionally while attending full courses at their school.

I'm a bit disappointed that Parsons lost this year of Fushion,

but I decided to bring the glory back next year by applying for Fushion next year.

Wish me luck!

K.S. got me a ticket for this year as a gift and also because he was one of the models.

Ruffian FW 2010

I worked as one of the dressers in the backstage of Ruffian Fall/Winter 2010 show during fashion show. Antique constellation prints and images of Orion taken by the Hubble telescope decorated the designers' silk blouses, and skirtsuits with trim, cropped jackets and flaring, to the knee skirts were cut in silvery bloucle inspired by Van Gogh's Starry Night.

NYC is starting to warm up!! Ears and cheek biting winds eased up a bit and I actually wore this out to CVS around the corner!!! This sweater I purchased from Urban Outfitters is tight around the arm and lose around the front, working like a scarf. Really light-weighted and comfortable plus its absolutely warm. (can be bought in brown).

I actually got these boots at a shoes store corner of 6th ave. and 14th st. near Urban Outfitters.

I'm a bit ticked off that it isn't real leather but these shoes satisfy my picky taste 500%.

Heels are about 3.5 inches but they are wedges so they are comfortable to walk all around the NYC for days.(But don't rely on this if you can't walk in heels. period.) Goes well with tights, leggings, jeans, and skirts. Due to walking around the city the back bottom part of the shoes are getting worn out. :-( I think I got the last pair too! Can be found in grey, and pink.

Despite the tidiness of the new built dorm, my dorm has problem with package room service. Not only do they forget to email us when the package gets here, but some are missing. Due to the horrible weather past few weeks I do not know if it's the flower delivery company or our package system, I got roses delivered 2 weeks after Valentines day. As corny as it might sound, My dad sent me flowers (assorted colors, MY FAVORITE) as a surprise. I think getting flowers from dad is some what more thoughtful and romantic than my romantic partner. Or is it just me? My parents obviously sued the flower place and got refunds but it would've been nice to have fresh flowers delivered on time. I was beyond disappointed to find my flowers half rotten, shriveled, and dried. :-(

It is a duty for Parsons students to visit Metropolitan Museum of Art at least once a week. Last week I've gone to the Met (shortened) twice last week to write a paper on Princess de Broglie by Jean Ingre's painting. This particular piece was intriguing when I studied art history in High School and I was pleased to see it in person. I actually got ready on time and KS was really happy about that. :-)

Along with Ingre's work I saw alot of master pieces I was wishing to see (it was my first time ever actually spending more than 2 hours in Met). Surprisingly KS had fun himself too. He talked about artworks and evaluated them as well. He is really in to tranquil and serene scenery(boring...) Whereas I like paintings that depict drama or figures.

I was practically whining the whole day from walking so much and having a huge headache and talk about being an early bird on Saturday...

Seeing me acting like a Grumpy, KS whispered to me, "Imagine if they were actually singing 'Drop it like it's hot~' or 'I want your bad romance'," I just had to laugh then. People stared but fuck it ;-)

I'm beyond lazy at uploading photos... I still have piles of photos I need to update...UGH.

2 weekends ago, David and I decided to take minds off things and go for a little shopping spree.

We always go shopping together because he is just poor at shopping like any other GUYS.

I guess we were at Soho too early and we ended up at Starbucks.

This is our pictures together for the first time.

David is addicted to Caffein and tea. Every time we go out we end up at Starbucks or any small cafe around the city. Whenever he has bits of time or when I struggle at taking my mind off things that shouldn't really stress me, he takes me to late night cafes and treat me with fattening cakes.

This day we ended up at Starbucks TWICE. Only sipped on tea, My earl gray tea was too bitter.

I've been so mad at myself for not getting around to buying the Alexander Wang's Studded bucket bag. Now it's nowhere to be purchased from or I don't think Wang himself produces more of those. (at one point I was so mad that I asked David "Do you think if I wrote an e-mail he'd make one for me?, he just said "It's like me sending an e-mail asking Jacobs to custom make a shirt for me) So we ended up at Barney's Co-op (wow that place was so small) The only thing that intrigued me was obviously Wang's stuff. This is one of his new zipper bags. A bit too big for me to carry everywhere but simple. However, I'm not really sure about this simple flat design... :-( BUCKET BAG!!!!

My first time trying Pho,.. I've always wanted to try but didn't have chance to. It's mad cheap and sold everywhere but I have no idea why I haven't tried. I'm never a picky eater but I get picky with the spices inside my food. Growing up in a strict Korean family, I'm fairly used to odd food and traditional food, however I never got familiar with spices from China or Vietnam. I remember getting invited to a lunch at DimSum and totally starved myself because I coiled away from the spices inside the food. My guts were sticking to my back by the time David brought me into this huge Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant in Canal Street. Supposedly one of his favorite restaurants... I was too hungry and too cold to care about the familiar scent so I started munching away... It was beyond satisfying until I tasted the exotic spice after about 5 mouthful. I started chewing on noodles one straw by one not to have the strong taste in my mouth and David laughed at me so hard about it. :-(

I really don't remember anything past this. 3 glasses of Mojito, a shot of Tequila, and sips here and there hit me hard at the end of the night. I was by myself puking thank god in my toilet all night and morning... I finally managed to wake up with the biggest hangover. I unfortunately had to give up on Binetti fashion show. Even the thought of alcohol sickened me after this.

It's funny, I'm not lightweight and I also learned to control myself,.. however, I have no idea where this came from.

I really need to get my acts together.

It's been snowing a lot lately. I actually had a snow day this Wednesday. I woke up around 4pm and there was already about 6 inches of snow. It snowed crazily the whole day and I really wasn't feeling like going out even if I desperately needed to grocery shop. I guess it's the gloomy weather and just seeing all the buildings gray and blue, I've been getting a little depressed lately. Coldness I'm used to and also they've fixed our heater system in our dorm!

I wish it was a bit warmer,

I really enjoyed wearing semi spring/winter clothes while I was in LA.

It's about time, however... we aren't getting the warm weather till probably late April or May.

I stopped drinking so much. Not really good for myself.

Maybe so much rain and my preparation to fly back to NYC kept me away from blogging.

I've returned to school. Not yet bombarded with homework...

It seemed like LA people brought the storm and tornado warning with them.

On Monday back in NYC I was harassed by heavy rain and wind.

I love rainy weather but not when I have million things to carry...

Is it the odd california weather!?? I'm insanely weakly these days.

I'm unusually energetic unlike others on rainy days but I've been feeling queasy.

My whole body aches and I have an immense headache that won't go away.

I'm not feeling so eloquent today...

I worked on this this afternoon listening to the thunderstorm. Learning photoshop at Parsons comes really handy :-) By the way this is Fall/Winter seasons 2009 Marni ready to wear pieces. Marni never fails to amazes me. Marni works with dark toned-down hues matching with different textured and this checkered prints. Lots of fur and satin. Here comes Marni's signature drapery dresses and coats.

When I went to Palm Springs this winter vacation, I found myself locking my eyes on Facebook and doing literally nothing but online shopping, looking through pictures and watching tv. Then on the last day My family and I stopped by the outlet to go on my last shopping spree. I was breathed to see that Palm Springs had stores other than Gap and Banana Republic. My mom, sister and I nearly died when we stepped our foot into Marni. One of my mom's favorite designer Marni never fails to produce ingenious, very Modern, edgy style while the design of the garment is very simple. Garments drape loose as if somebody threw fabrics on a mannequin and sewn. I touched and wore $10,000 piece of sheep skin coats. Ah I nearly died. My mom kept on trying to buy me Marni and Theory dresses for me but where would I wear those dresses?!?! :-(

This is Fall Ready to Wear pieces from 2007. I'm amazed at how modern the 3 years ago portfolio is. I actually took my time photoshopping some of the images I've found on style.com, putting together these this morning.

Funnily this first reminded me of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) that I watched in Junior english class. I actually thought this was the mock up version of it. However never was it credited or mentioned on the article.

I didn't have the money to buy the infamous cage shoes by Yves Saint Laurent but we all know that you need at least 1K and couple hundreds to put these ever on. I should've at least took a picture of fabulous me with these on... :-) Imagine me walking around these on. I think the possibility of me being able to match 'right' outfits would be less than 10... but I really want those Chanel boots on the side. ugh! Makes me shiverrr!
